Recently,
Lecture Guoyou Huang from BEBC has published his first author review in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces entitled " Magnetically Actuated Droplet
Manipulation and Its Potential Biomedical Applications ".
Droplet
manipulation has found broad applications in various engineering and biomedical
fields, such as biochemistry, microfluidic systems and drug delivery and tissue
engineering. Many methods have been developed to enhance the ability for
manipulating droplets, among which magnetically actuated droplet manipulation
has attracted widespread interests due to its remote, noninvasive manipulation
ability and biocompatibility. This review paper focuses on magnetic
manipulation of droplet and introduce latest state-of-the-art research advances
of magnetic-response droplets, including MNP-laden droplets, magnetic liquid
marble and ferrofluid droplet. It’s also the first review to summarize the
approaches and the corresponding principles that that enable actuating the
droplet magnetically. The potential biomedical applications of droplet
manipulation by magnetic field, mainly in bioassay, cell assembly and tissue
engineering, are discussed logically. And it also shows current challenges and
future prospects on the development of such scenario.
The
co-authors of the paper include Moxiao Li, Qingzhen Yang, Yuhui Li, Hao Liu,
Professor Hui Yang and Professor Feng Xu.
