Congratulations to Moxiao Li and Hao Liu for the NSF fellowship for NSF International Summer School on
Biocomplexity, Biodesign and Bioinnovation. The summer school was held in a beautiful Aegean City, Izmir, Turkey.
Great achievement for BEBC!
Moxiao Li gave an excellent talk. The
wetting of plant cell epidermis has inspired novel superhydrophobic coatings
through the lotus effect, and hydrophobic yet water-adsorptive coatings through
the rose petal effect. She demonstrated that this omniphilic behavior was
useful for transferring small volumes of both oil and water, for controlling
microscale chemical reactions, and for separating oil from water with
subsequent liquid release.
The topic for Hao Liu’s lecture was “Smart
amphibious soft robots: magnetically actuated liquid metal”. His talk was
really exciting too.
