We are happy to announce that Prof. Feng Xu has received the 15th Shaanxi Youth May 4th Medal. This award was given by the Communist Youth League in Shaanxi Province to 15 outstanding youths to recognize their spiritual character and value pursuit.
In 2011, Prof. Xu made a life changing decision to give up ample opportunities overseas and go back to his Alma Mater - Xi'an Jiaotong University and started a research group called Bioinspired Engineering and Biomechanics Center (BEBC) with his mentor Prof. Tian Jian Lu. In the past five years, aiming the front edge of the fields and national demands, the group published 4 books, over 200 journal papers, 20 national patents and received the 2nd class National Prize for Natural Sciences and the 1st class Award of Educational Ministry Science and Technology. The combination of digital manufacturing and microfluidic technology first proposed by him made efficient, low-cost and rapid detection available to national issues such as infectious diseases and food safety. Prof. Xu also helped to develop cooperation with Cambridge University, Harvard University and Washington University in St. Louis and encouraged elite scholars abroad to come back to China and join the team.
