On the afternoon of Oct. 27th, a
lecture named "Prevention and Treatment of Post-Traumatic
Osteoarthritis" was given by Professor Lu from University of Delaware. Professor Lu
introduced his main results of traumatic
injuries to the knee joints, such
as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear or meniscus rupture, are common in
young adults and place the injured knee at risk for post-traumatic
osteoarthritis (PTOA). Hope we can have cooperation
in the coming days.
Introduction
of Prof. Lu
Prof. Lu is an Assistant Professor in the
Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Delaware. He received his
doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University with distinction in
2007. His primary research interests focus on the osteoarthritis with a
particular interest in the trauma induced osteoarthritis. His research projects
include the search of an effective drug to prevent the initiation of OA after
joint trauma damage, the application of bio-tribology materials for the
treatment of temporomandibular joint disorder, and the refinement and validation
of new rehabilitation protocols post cartilage repair surgery in the knee joint.
His research is funded by the Department of Defense, National Institute of
Health, National Science Foundation, Osteo Science Foundation, and
Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation. He recently received the Rising Star
award from Biomedical Engineering Society.
